ST 6000: Theology and Legacy of the Reformation

Course Description: In partnership with the Evangelical Free Church of America, this course will introduce students to the theology of the Protestant Reformation, with particular attention to the manner in which sixteenth-century religious reform transformed the theology and practice of the pastoral office.

Details: This course will be offered as part of the 2017 EFCA Theology Conference. The conference will be held on the TEDS campus in Deerfield, IL, from February 1-3, 2017. The course is worth 2 credit hours, and the course tuition is $400 ($200 per credit hour). Students must also register and pay for the EFCA Theology Conference, which costs an additional $140-175.

Professor: The course will be taught by Dr. David J. Luy, who earned his PhD in Religious Studies from Marquette University in Systematic Theology. He is passionate about the role of systematic theology in the life of the church, and is humbled by the enormous privilege of equipping future ministers for Christian service. Dr. Luy’s research centers especially upon the historical development and modern appropriation of reformation theology.

CH 6000: The Reformation and Pastoral Ministry

Course Description: In partnership with the Gospel Coalition, this course will introduce students to the theology and history of the Protestant Reformation, with particular attention to the manner in which sixteenth-century religious reform transformed the theology and practice of the pastoral office.

Details: The course will be offered at the 2017 Gospel Coalition National Conference. The conference will be held in Indianapolis, IN, from April 3-5, 2017. The course is worth 2 credit hours, and the course tuition is $400 ($200 per credit hour). Students must also register and pay for the conference, which costs an additional $99.

Professor: The course will be taught by Dr. Scott M. Manetsch, who joined Trinity’s faculty in 2000 after serving three years as an Assistant Professor of Religion at Northwestern College (Iowa). Ordained in the Reformed Church in America, Dr. Manetsch served as an associate pastor of education and discipleship for three years. Dr. Manetsch has conducted intensive research on the theology and practice of pastoral ministry in Reformation Europe.
